A bstract We study collisions of boosted rotating black holes in D = 6 and 7 spacetime dimensions with a non-zero impact parameter. find that there exists an open set initial conditions such the intermediate state collision is hole dumbbell-like horizon which unstable to local Gregory-Laflamme-type instability. are able provide convincing numerical evidence evolution instability leads pinch off finite asymptotic time thus forming naked singularity, as similar holes. Testing cosmic censorship with black hole collisions.
There exists an upper limit on the mass of black holes when the cosmological constant Λ is positive. We study the collision of two black holes whose total mass exceeds this limit. Our investigation is based on a recently discovered exact solution describing the collision of Q = M black holes with Λ > 0. The global structure of this solution is analyzed. We find that if the total mass is less th...
متن کاملBlack Hole Collisions , Analytic Continuation , and Cosmic Censorship
Exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations that describe moving black holes in a cosmological setting are discussed with the aim of discovering the global structure and testing cosmic censorship. Continuation beyond the horizons present in these solutions is necessary in order to identify the global structure. Therefore the possibilities and methods of analytic extension of geometries ar...
متن کاملBlack-Hole Polarization and Cosmic Censorship
The destruction of the black-hole event horizon is ruled out by both cosmic censorship and the generalized second law of thermodynamics. We test the consistency of this prediction in a (more) ‘dangerous’ version of the gedanken experiment suggested by Bekenstein and Rosenzweig. A U(1)-charged particle is lowered slowly into a near extremal black hole which is not endowed with a U(1) gauge field...
متن کاملAccelerating a Black Hole in Higher Dimensions
Utilising the master equation with source for perturbations of the SchwarzschildTangherlini solution, we construct perturbative solutions representing a black hole accelerated by a string in higher dimensions. We show that such solutions can be uniquely determined by a single function representing the local tension of the string, under natural asymptotic and regularity conditions. We further st...

We study the property of matter in equilibrium with a static, spherically symmetric black hole in D-dimensional spacetime. It requires this kind of matter has an equation of state ω ≡ pr/ρ = −1/(1 + 2kn), k, n ∈ N, which seems to be independent of D. However, when we associate this with specific models, some interesting limits on space could be found: (i)D = 2 + 2kn while the black hole is surr...
